 Rules for the Children's Market

The purpose of the Children’s Market is to encourage interest in farming, gardening, and growing.  The general rules of the Farmers’ Market also apply to the Children’s Market.

1. The Children’s Market is held on every second Saturday of the Market Season.

2. Only Bainbridge Island children and children of BIFM vendors up to age 15 may participate.

3. Children need to be at Market by 8:30 AM and must stay until market closes at 1 PM.

4. Approved farm products for sale include produce, flowers, plants and other farm products that the children have grown, cultivated, and harvested themselves.

5. Craft products must be made by the children themselves. Effective April 2007, no child craft vendor will be approved in any category in which there already are two or more child vendors.

6. The following items cannot be sold:  animals, eggs, prepared food (homemade or store bought), beverages, soaps, lotions, and other goods to be applied to the skin, commercial products (such as t-shirts or caps that the child has decorated) or other items that violate BIFMA rules for adult vendors.  Items should be approved for sale by the Children’s Market Manager (CMM).

7. Children keep track of sales by category (farm, craft) and report to CMM.

8. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

9. Each child who is present at and participates in the market will pay $1, which will be collected by the CMM or her representative and given to the Market Manager.

10. Space is limited, so contact with the CMM must be made by the Wednesday before Saturday Market to see if space is available.

11.  Children are responsible for set up of table and chairs.

12. CMM reports to the Market Manager.

NB: Children who have enough farm products to sell each week are encouraged to apply to the 4-H club, which has permanent space at the market, or to apply for a Limited Market Membership.
